3rd Grade Blog                                              October 29-November 1, 2017

Today we spent time learning about Parashat K’doshim, loving your neighbor. We started with a potentially problematic situation that could happen on the soccer field and we discussed the possible problems with the situation and also possible suggestions in order to handle the situation in a nice way. This led really well into our discussion on loving your neighbor. I put the quote  “Love your fellow human being as you love yourself” (Vayikra/ Leviticus 19:18) on the board and we took a few minutes to talk about what this may mean and examples that we have seen in our own lives. The class was then asked to create on their own examples of how we “love our neighbors.” We made sure that the students understood that this idea was not just about loving a neighbor, but rather loving all of those around you. The students shared at the end what they created and what they have learned and ways that they planned to start or continue doing this in their everyday lives.

In class today, we did a very short Hebrew review on the letters and vowels. We did a little more word blending in our Hebrew book. Rabbi Tuling visited us to get to know the students in our class. As a reminder, our 3rd Grade First Friday Community Shabbat Service, Siddur Presentation and Dinner is this Friday, November 3. Your child will receive his/her siddur and will help lead the service singing a few special prayers and songs. Becca and I hope to see everyone there; services begin at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner.
