Today was such an awesome class! It was so good to be back and I hope you all had wonderful breaks! At the beginning of class I gave the students time to work on the siddurim they started last class, and then we had our tefilah with the second graders. The kindergartners and first graders were all given second grade buddies, and everyone sat so nicely and sang beautifully together! After our music time, we went over the parts of the body in Hebrew. The students then decorated gingerbread people and labeled the body parts with the Hebrew words. Next, we had snack, played Shimon Omer (Simon Says) and went to tefilah!

Today we learned all about prayer books and tefilah! We started with our discussion of mitzvot and tzedakah, and then sang our tefilah. Next, we talked about how in Hebrew, we read from right to left and the pages go in the opposite direction from English. The students then worked on their own siddurim (prayer books). We had snack and listened to Jonah, one of our madrichim, read “Sara Finds a Mitzva.” After, we had music with the second graders and learned three new songs, and went to tefilah in the sanctuary. The students were so enthusiastic about singing and learning prayers today!

Happy new year, and I’ll see you on January 6!

Then, one of our awesome madrichim, Rebecca, read “The Only One Club” which is a Hanukkah story about a little girl who is the only Jewish child in her class. We then made candle hats to wear for the last night of Hanukkah! Next, we had snack, and then sang lots of Hanukkah songs with the second graders! Lastly, we went to Tefilah.
