Congregation Kol Haverim is a cohesive Reform Jewish community, celebrating the diversity of our mutlti-racial, ethnic and interfaith families We seek an open collaborator to lead our religious school, someone who can steadily contribute as a team player with the Rabbi and lay leadership. Candidates with an aptitude for community engagement, capacity for active listening to students and their families along with the ability to manage staff/teachers and lead professional development are encouraged to apply. Classroom teaching experience at one of the age levels we serve (early childhood ages through young adulthood) is required.

We seek a Jewish educator that will combine applicable experience with flexibility as required to meet the needs of children, adolescents and families in our community.  The Religious School Principal is a leadership role requiring excellent communication skills and in-the-moment interpersonal skills. The Principal is a key contributor to the trajectory of CKH through: 1) Ensuring an inclusive school environment through the responsive differentiation of programming, 2) Managing of the school budget in collaboration with CKH leadership and Board Finance Committee, and 3) Leading the creation and maintaining of policies and procedures.  Desired candidates should have comfort with technology and the desire to learn (e.g. ShulCloud, Zoom, Google docs)  Transition training and onboarding support will be provided.

This position has flexible hours outside of being present on Sunday and Wednesday for Religious School sessions, first Friday evening services for school programming and other annual, major CKH events and programs.  The position will begin no later than July 1 with a possible opportunity to start late spring.  Application review will begin March 1 and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities and functions of the position:



  • Create a positive learning and working environment.

  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate the religious school faculty & substitute teachers.

  • Coordinates arranging for substitute teachers.

  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate the Youth Director.

  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate the Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutors and peer tutors.

  • Supervise, mentor and evaluate the madrichim.

  • Track madrichim adherence to requirements. 

  • Plan and teach madrichim professional development workshops.

  • Plan, implement and lead faculty orientation and staff development. 

  • Meet regularly with the Mutual Review team.


  • Attend and participate in Family Shabbat and Tot Shabbat Services and dinners.

  • Plan, coordinate, promote and implement special events such as Consecration of New Students, 3rd Grade Siddur Presentation, and Confirmation Ceremony.

  • Plan the religious school calendar in coordination with CKH calendar, area school calendars, major area Jewish calendars, etc.

  • Ensure that all Religious School programs and events also appear on the CKH calendar on the website and the CKH administrator’s calendar.

  • Collaborate with office administrator and families for school meals.

  • Coordinate JFE programs, Voice of Hope, ADL and Israeli Young Emissaries visits (etc.).

  • Oversee the upper school, post B’nai mitzvah ages, in collaboration with a GRSLY Youth Director

  • Oversee GRSLY Youth program.

  • Oversee Temple Tots program.


  • Oversee the administration of the religious school (Toddlers to 18 year olds)

  • Oversee, schedule, trouble-shoot Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring and peer tutoring schedule. 

  • Review and maintain a health & safety plan for unforeseen events that keeps our community safe and healthy, including delivery of instruction.

  • Work with staff and volunteers to support an online registration system and manage files in ShulCloud.

  • Ensure that all students are properly registered for religious school and that medical release forms are complete and properly submitted.

  • Work with and prepare monthly written reports for Education Committee and Board of Trustees.

  • Organize, inventory, and order religious school supplies and text materials in conjunction with the office administrator.

  • Be present at Sunday and Wednesday Religious School sessions and other major religious school and CKH events and programs.

  • Implement and update forms, such as attendance cards, birthday cards, teacher postcards to students. 

  • Maintain systems to track student attendance, tzedakah contributions, etc.

  • Coordinate individual classroom set-up, use of social hall and sanctuary on religious school days, with the office administrator.


  • Collaborate with Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair, office administrator to understand and track the current Religious School budget.

  • Manage, oversee, develop and plan the religious school budget.

  • Manage and complete monthly payroll reports (for teachers, Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutors, substitute teachers) and submit reports to the payroll company, in collaboration with the Chair of the Finance Committee and office administrator.

Communication with Families

  • Communicate frequently with students and families, collectively and individually, via email, phone, in person, ShulCloud announcements/emails, etc.

  • Greet, welcome, and develop relationships with potential Religious School families and CKH members.

  • Write a quarterly article for The Voice, in coordination with the Rabbi.

  • Contacts parents about student issues that occur during school time.

Communication with Staff and Teachers

  • Provide resources and support for teachers

  • Individualize the curriculum based on teachers’ strengths and students’ needs.

  • Facilitate teacher communication to families on a weekly basis.

  • Oversee and ensure the faculty’s accurate and timely reporting of student progress; edit all report cards and email to parents. 

  • Communicate with office administrator, KH and Religious School volunteers (class parents, TOT Shabbat and Bagel Nosh coordinators, Sisterhood, Brotherhood, etc.).


  • Develop and implement school policies, rules and procedures, and handbooks (in coordination with Rabbi and education committee).

  • Update and disseminate all 4 handbooks (Parent, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Madrichim, and Teacher).

  • Create and develop curricular outcomes for Hebrew and Judaica curriculums.

  • Collaborate with the Rabbi to organize and lead religious school t’fillot (worship services) every Sunday and Wednesday. 

Professional Development

  • Participate in Jewish and/or other professional development education available through organizations like CJEL, JEC and ARJE.

  • Stay current with trends in religious school education and technology.

Reports to:

  • Rabbi (weekly 1:1 meetings, weekly staff meetings).

  • CKH Vice President for Education (meeting at least once a month).
