Presentation on Childhood Anxiety

Sunday, January 31, 2021 18 Sh'vat 5781

4:00 PM - 6:00 PMOnline/Zoom
Description:  This talk was originally scheduled to be held in person back in March 2020.  With the ongoing pandemic, the topic of this discussion has become even more relevant.  Pre-covid, approximately 7% of school-aged youth met criteria for an anxiety disorder.  Join Laura Miller, Ph.D. for a presentation on how to recognize symptoms of anxiety in school-aged children, ways to discuss anxiety with your child, and strategies to help your anxious child at home.  This brief presentation will be followed by a Q & A session where discussion is encouraged!

Bio: Dr. Miller is a Licensed Psychologist with advanced training in pediatric neuropsychology. She earned her B.A. in psychology from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Miller went on to earn her masters in psychology and Ph.D. in school psychology from Syracuse University. She completed an APA accredited internship in Pediatric Neuropsychology from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Following graduation, Dr. Miller went on to complete two years of Postdoctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology with Mass General for Children at North Shore Medical Center and Child and Family Psychological Services. She currently works as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UConn School of Medicine and as a pediatric neuropsychologist at Hopewell Health Solutions.

Dr. Miller grew up as a member of Congregation Kol Haverim and recently relocated back to Glastonbury to be closer to her family . Of note, her father, David Miller is co- chair of the Lifelong Learning committee.  Laura is very excited to give back to the community.
