Desserts Needed for South Park Shelter
Kol Haverim members have supported the South Park Inn shelter in Hartford for many years. We prepare meals and provide desserts on a regular basis. At this time we are in need of desserts (baked cookies/cake, or save and freeze the leftovers from Shabbat or Bar/Bat Mitzvot events).  We need to serve about 100 people - 3 or 4 batches of cookies would do it or several cakes which we can slice. These can be brought to the synagogue and put in refrigerator/freezer - please label "FOR SOUTH PARK INN". Thanks, contact Bette Glickman (953-3485) or Seth Molofsky for questions. Soup Kitchen - Lend a Hand

Kol Haverim members have been volunteering for many years at Loaves and Fishes in Hartford, serving lunch to those in need. Loaves & Fishes provides support services for individuals trying to break the cycle of dependency. Through education, food, counseling, and economic development programs they hope to provide at least some of the community fabric that is critical to personal achievement. Please consider taking a couple of hours to help prepare and serve food - it's easy work, fun, and a great service. Note: You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer at the soup kitchen.

UPCOMING 2010 SERVING DATES:  March 5th, May 7th, July 2nd, September 3rd, November 5th. Contact Seth Molofsky for further information or to volunteer for an upcoming serving date. For further information about Loaves and Fishes, CLICK HERE.

Nothing But Nets - Youth Group Asks for Your Support

Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. While the UN Foundation has been working with the UN to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated, challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets -- and the incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country -- that led to the creation the Nothing But Nets campaign. Operation Fuel - Energy Assistance - Needs Support
Operation Fuel, the states leading advocate for those in need of energy assistance. is in need of substantial increases in monetary donations to their operation. With fuel prices being upwards of 300% of what they were just 2 years ago, the ranks of those who will need help paying their energy bills is quickly outstripping their ability to keep up. Joining this growing number are people who a short time ago would need no help — they are our neighbors, congregation members, friends, etc. By legislation soon to be approved, a median household income of $94,000 is now eligible for assistance for state aid.  This all means the demand will be higher and the supply of dollars shorter. Please visit  www.operationfuel.org for further information.
